The study is called experimental research. The purpose of this study is to find of the out whether the use Jigsaw method in improving the students reading ability of descriptive text is effective or not. The researcher used JIGSAW as a method in improving students ’ reading ability of descriptive text. The population of this research is 231 students. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into control group (VIII A, 33 students) and experimental group (VIII B, 33 students) by using purposive sampling technique. The result of this research found that the use Jigsaw method is effective to improve the students ’ reading ability of descriptive text. It was found that the result of t-value was 3.33. Based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table was 2.04, the computation showed that t-value was higher than t-table, which was 3.33> 2.04. It means that Jigsaw method is effective in improving the students’ reading ability of descriptive text at the eighth grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of 2012/2013
