Compare is an acronym for Compiler generation for parallel machines Its main objectives are to build compiler components in such a manner that they can be mixed and matched to develop compilers for new languages and new machines It was decided to use C in this project in preference to C for most of the major com ponents that are to be integrated together This report summarizes the various opinions forandagainst favoring C the technical problems and the subsequent standardization problems which eventually resulted in dropping C in favor of C In order to make a reason ably coherent document we concentrate on issues with respect to mapping the intermediate representation language f SDL to C AMS Subject Classicatio
