Schools, Schooling, and Teachers: A Curriculum for the Future

Education in the next century must reflect the needs of students. Unfortunately, reform efforts often appear to be fragmented and unfo-cused. The model discussed in this article provides a conceptual frame-work for reform and numerous means by which the proposed framework can be implemented. we approach the twenty-first century, educators are develop-~J ~ ing a vision of what the future will hold for schools, school-As ing, and teachers, a vision that must focus on all dimensions of education if change is to be effective. Central to any restructuring effort are changes that affect curriculum. Future curricular design must implement radically different programs and philosophies in which all stakeholders, educators, business leaders, private corporations, civic groups, and others are involved. Such design will be dri-ven by changes in society, technological advances, and the interweaving of our national goals with international growth and development.
