Talpade Mohanty's work has framed the issues for global feminist organizing. Her article, "Under Western Eyes: Feminist Scholarship and Colonial Discourses " (1991), has become a touchstone for feminists struggling to grapple with the relations of imperialism and their implications for feminism. It interrogated the ways in which geographic location and different histories structure relationships between feminists; in particular, it considered how a Western gaze defined feminist knowledge of Third World women. This seminal article gave voice to the struggle of many Third World feminists to gain an equal space within global feminist praxis, and has led to a redefining of power relationships between First World and Third World feminists. During the past decade, feminists have been addressing another set of challenges. A new phase of globalization is transforming women's work and lives throughout the world. In Feminis
