ABSTRACT: Beach profile data from two sites in the Magdalen Islands, Quebec, are used to improve the model developed by Hayes and Boothroyd (1969) that explains the sequence of events in beach recovery following storm-wave erosion. As the level of wave activity decreases a small ridge is formed in the swash zone at the landward margin of the low-tide terrace. This ridge migrates in 1 or 2 days into the intertidal zone and provides ediment for the redevelopment of an equilibrium beach-face slope and for the construction ofa herin. Simultaneously a second ridge develops in the breaker zone on the low-tide terrace. This larger ridge migrates lowly to eventually weld onto the beach face if the migration is not interrupted by further storm-wave ...
