Downloaded Fprovide an assessment of the thermal behavior of the power modulation from a laser diode. In this case the power modulation directly affects the laser diode temperature. As a result, the tem-perature of the laser diode will have a significant influence on the optical performance of the laser, as well as on its reliability. Therefore, a thermoelectric cooler is used to keep the temperature of the thermal carrier in the pump laser at a fixed temperature, in general 298 K. However, the thermoelectric cooler might not be able to respond rapidly enough to the temperature changes due to the power modulation in the pump laser. Under this scenario, the optical performance of the pump laser will be affected and a ther-mal run away can occur. In the present analysis, a 1480 nm modulating pump laser op-erating in a frequency range from 500 kHz to 3MHz is chosen. This large modulating frequency leads to a short time cycle, there-fore, the current study reviews the different thermal approaches strained to numerical analysis to develop the appropriate under-standing of the thermal behavior of this application. The numerical model is developed to represent the laser diode and its thermal carrier which is described in Fig. 2.
