This study identified the existence, types, related procedures, and use of faculty productivity reporting systems currently used by institutions of higher education involved in externally-funded research. Institutional research officers at 200 institutions of higher education %ere surveyed in an effort to characterize the existing productivity reporting systems of these institutions. These were instiLutions with the highest levels of total, separately budgeted, science/engineering research and development expenditures. A total of.83 administrators responded.
