The immune system is an important player in the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, as evidenced by the fact that intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy has been the gold standard therapy for this type of disease for more than 3 decades. In many tumor types, studies have reported on varying asso-ciation between tumor cells and immune cells such as tumor associated macro-phages (TAMs), tumor-associated neu-trophils (TANs), tumor-associated T cells (TATs).
