Uterine leiomyoma is the most common type of benign neoplasm in the female reproductive system, and is the most common indication for hysterectomy in premenopausal women.1 However, despite its frequent occurrence, the causes of uterine leiomyoma remain unclear. It is known that the size of uterine leiomyoma is increased by exposure female hormones, such as estrogen secreted by the ovaries, because uterine leiomyoma usually occurs in young women.
