However, less than 3 % of the UK’s pay-for-performance markers in the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) focus on them and many of the current markers actively exclude children [2,3]. The lack of markers in primary care reflects in part the difficulties in measuring the quality of care in chil-dren [4] and the lack of professional consensus regard-ing which markers should be implemented in UK general practice [5]. Since being introduced in 2004, the QOF has bee
