First evidence of high-energy astrophysical neutrino observation with the IceCube detector from May 2010 to May 2012 is presented. Selecting for high-energy neutrino events with vertices well contained in the detec-tor volume, the analysis has sensitivity starting at approximately 50 TeV, and the highest energy events are a few PeV. A significant excess in flux is observed above expected backgrounds from atmospheric muons and neu-trinos. The sample of 28 events includes the highest energy neutrinos ever observed, and has properties consistent in flavor, arrival direction, and energy with generic expectations for neutrinos of extraterrestrial origin.
