Internationalization Speed of Developing Country SMEs: An

The objective of this study is to describe the process of internationalization of Kenyan SMEs i.e. find out if the firms use traditional/incremental process or if they use rapid internationalization process. Even though there has in the last decade been some studies on the internationalization process of SMEs, most research conducted in the field of globalization are mainly focused on large multinational companies usually originating from large countries. There still seems to exist a gap in the literature when it comes to explaining the rapid globalization of born global SMEs in particular in developing countries like Kenya. The focus of this study was to identify which factors determine a firm’s speed of internationalization. The implications from this study range from both theoretical to practical in terms of better understanding the outlook of current SMEs in Kenya and the barriers experienced in attempting to navigate the global business environment
