The graphics simulation of volumetric deformable objects and their fracturing behaviors is needed in many applications. Currently such simulations are usually solved by using the Finite Element Method (FEM), which requires extensively large amounts of calculation and results in slow processing speed, so that it is usually not suitable for real-time simulations. On the other hand, the Particle Spring System (PSS) is largely used in simulating cloth and shell (infinitely thin) objects and provides a reasonable simulation speed that could achieve real-time animation.
