UTILIZATION OF OPENGEO SUITE IN BUILDING A WEB APPLICATION FOR LARGE SCALE GIS DATA

ABSTRACT: This paper describes the utilization of Open Geo Suite, a commercial open source web framework for building Web GIS application in handling large scale data. The paper emphasized the use of the said framework in cloud hosting and displaying Detailed Resource Maps (DRM) of Caraga Region. DRM is the output of extracting high value crops using high-resolution LiDAR datasets by employing Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) technology and data mining techniques which generates great amount of data or shapefiles. The Framework is composed of open source applications which are prominent in handling and building GIS application, like Postgresql with PostGIS component for database, Geoserver for Map Server and Java Development Kit as its software development kit (SDK). The developed web map facility was built using HTML, Ajax, JQuery, OpenLayers 3 API for map display and Bootstrap for a dynamic Web Interface and design. Building GIS web application using this framework does not only provide fast and efficient handling and displaying geometric or spatial data, but also provides convenient environment for developers. 1
