INTEGRATION OF WOMEN AS A FIGHTER PILOT

Women pilots ’ situation in the Air Forces of not one unique country but globally is taken in the consideration in this article. Nowadays it is possible to see women in many professions and their position in the working population of countries has been increasing day by day.2 At the first half of the twentieth century, women's rights were still being discussed however getting the senior positions have become a common situation for successful women today. But still, many professions continue as male-dominated. And women in these professions are facing some problems due to remaining in minority. One of the most prominent male-dominated profession is being a war pilot. In fact, when we look at the history, it is possible to see many examples of successful women pilots who started flying at the same time with men and flown in many missions including operational flights, successfully. Although women participate in active roles in this profession, the number of female fighter pilots remains limited. The main reasons of this situation are; hard physical flight conditions, G tolerance, the physical capacity differences and social problems. In this study, the possible reasons of limited number of women jet pilots compared to men are discussed. These reasons are examined and their effects have been studied
