The Economic Geography Study Group took on its present name during 1992-93, transforming itself from the previous Industrial Activity and Area Development Study Group. It is hoped that the change of title will in time be seen as more than purely superficial. The group plans to broaden its perspective and engage with a series of broader theoretical and policy debates. Preparations are already underway for a major session at the 1995 annual conference at Northumbria on 'New challenges for economic geography', and the group hopes to initiate discussion in the run-up to this.
