Abstract—Various schemes have been recently proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with a large number of transmit antennas. In this paper we propose a layered turbo-coded space-time scheme on the basis of performance analysis. It is shown that optimizing coding gain is preferred to optimizing transmit diversity. The performance of the proposed scheme is within 2 dB range of the outage probability and has lower complexity than other schemes with comparable performance. I
