A series of indole derivatives (3-6 & 8a) were synthesized from 2-phenyl-1H-indole (1) with an aim to get promising anticonvulsant agents. The compounds were characterized on the basis of their IR, 1 H NMR and Mass spectral data results. The compounds were tested for their anticonvulsant activity in MES and scPTZ animal models. A few compounds showed appreciable activity against both the animal models whereas one compound, 5, showed significant anticonvulsant activity and could be considered for further investigations
