This paper aimed to validate remote sensing tools for the development of land management plans. This validation was performed from the verification of urban expansion in the city of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, between 1991 and 2011. For the development of the study, the geoprocessing tools were complemented with population data to generate urban population, urban expansion and population density maps for each of the macrozones of the city of Campinas.
