(Policy Code: 4251) Student Organizations: Fund Raising by Students

In general, fund raising activities should not be a primary focus for student organizations. However, student organizations may need to raise funds to support their primary programs and projects. All student organizations are forbidden to solicit funds or goods, or to engage in the sale of products or services for any school project without prior approval from the principal. Any fund raising project sponsored by a student organization, which involves the community, must also obtain the prior approval of the Board of Education Superintendent. A report of approved fund raising projects that involve the community shall be reported to the Board on a monthly basis. All money collected and expended as the result of such activities shall be recorded in the accounts of the school treasurer and shall be subject to the annual school audit. In order to assure the primary use of time, thought, and talent of staff and pupils for instructional purposes, it is necessary to place limits on the number of fund raising projects initiated by student organizations.
