date. This is a result of combination of efforts including the use of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs), artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACTs), (IRS) and environmental management. Between 2009 and 2011 two National campaigns resulted to availability of 27 million LLINs distributed free to each household in Tanzania; Today Tanzania is experiencing budgetary constraints which is affecting availability of resources for the health sector including control of malaria. This will undermine the control of malaria, and may lead to resurgence. Tanzania has been fighting malaria under the leadership of Ministry of Health and Social Welfare alone unlike the fight against HIV/AIDS which has a strong multisectoral approach where different sectors/institutions, pool together their efforts. Experience shows that, the fight against HIV/AIDS is showing good results. The same approach if applied to malaria control would be successful. Each sector has its contribution to the problem, especially agriculture, roads constructions and others. We should work together to remedy the situation. Sectors contributing to mosquito breeding and malarial endemicity include: Water pools in urban areas, Works and construction- excavation during road construction creates mosquito breeding sites, Irrigation schemes and water harvesting structures. Forestry & Environmental mismanagement. Planting and conservation of tree species which repel mosquitoes, gardens that repel mosquitoes may be of help.
