Starting in the early to mid-1990s, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and furan (PCDFs) were input into the Tittabawassee River (TR) near Midland, MI, USA. This activity resulted in PCDD/PCDF concentrations that were 10- to 20-fold greater in soils downstream of Midland when compared to upstream concentrations.
