Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland Policy Title: Continuing Registration Requirements

The purpose of this policy is to outline the Board’s requirements in relation to Continuing Registration Requirements (CRR) which also includes the minimum requirements a registered professional engineer should undertake in Continuing Professional Development (CPD). 2. Rationale This policy addresses the main objects of the Professional Engineers Act 2002, which are: (a) to protect the public by ensuring professional engineering services are provided by a registered professional engineer in a professional and competent way; and (b) to maintain public confidence in the standard of services provided by registered professional engineers; and (c) to uphold the standards of practice of registered professional engineers. S.16 of the Professional Engineers Act 2002 outlines the meaning of continuing registration requirements: Continuing registration requirements are requirements that, if satisfied, demonstrate that an applicant for renewal or restoration of registration has maintained competency in the practice of engineering in the area of engineering for which the applicant is, or was, registered. The requirements may include requirements about the following for an area of engineering-(a) the nature, extent and period of practice of engineering by the applicant; (b) the nature and extent of continuing professional development to be undertaken by the applicant; (c) the nature and extent of research, study or teaching, relating to engineering, to be undertaken by the applicant; (d) the nature and extent of administrative work, relation to engineering, to be performed by the applicant. 1 | P a g
