This is the third iteration of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) long-term outlook for airport capacity in the United States. Like the previous studies, the primary goal is to identify airports that are likely to need more capacity to accommodate anticipated growth in demand. Today, most hub airports in the United States operate efficiently with moderate delays. This is a significant improvement from prior editions of the Future Airport Capacity Task (FACT) reports when delays at many airports were growing and causing a ripple effect of systemwide delays. The graphic on the following page helps illustrate the substantial reductions in congestion that have been achieved during the 10 years since the first FACT report was published.
