Add to ORKGThis paper aims at analyzing the representation of science and of the scientist in Brazilian television news. It draws on theories from Functional Grammar, Critical Discourse Analysis, Media and Intercultural Studies. Results suggest that the popularization of scientific information identifies research activity with medical/health research and excludes social and human sciences from the process of social recognition of their status of scientificity by not legitimizing it. It is argued that the genre science update in Brazilian television news is a cultural artifact, product of problematic intercultural communication
