The study analyses the social position of immigrants in Hungary from neighbouring countries on the basis of a survey carried out among those who were granted immigrant status in 2001. In the first place the social position of the examined group is investigated along the dimensions of education, position in the labour market (economic activity and occupational mobility), social relations and some aspects of subjective satisfaction. On the basis of objective indicators of social position it can be deduced that, for the group as whole, migration has brought about positive changes in their position.
