The Yellow Sea is a shallow inland sea lying between northeastern China and the Korean Peninsula, with depths in its central north-south trough in excess of 60 to 80 m (Figure. 1). It serves as the oceanic outlet for the Yellow, Yalu, and Yangtze Rivers, which drain much of the north-central China landscape, caring large amounts of sediments into the ocean –hence its name.
