1 ANALYSIS OF THE SUFFIENCY OF ANGSANA TREES (PTEROCARPUS INDICUS) IN ABSORBING CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) DUE TO MOTOR VEHICLES ACTIVITY ON THE AHMAD YANI STREET SURABAYA

Abstract: Ahmad Yani is the largest main street in Surabaya which endured 10.600 vehicles/minute. Motor vehicle activity is one of contributing source of carbon emissions on Ahmad Yani. Ahmad Yani Street air quality by 2013 according to the Standard Pollutant Index is entering in an unhealthy category. This study calculated the suffiency between vegetation type in Ahmad Yani in 2014 and the concentration of carbon monoxide. The data was taken from amount of motor vehicle which passed on Ahmad Yani street in peak hours. Peak hours used as the data capture were 06.00-08.00; 11.00-13.00; 16.00-18.00; 19.00-21.00.Based on the analysis, the amount of Angsana Trees (Pterocarpus indicus) in Ahmad Yani in 2014 have not been able to absorb CO emissions due to the activity of motor vehicles. This can be evidenced by the CO absorptiveness of Angsana that can only 6,2 tons/year whereas emissions generated from motor vehicles reached 1.374.352,67 tons/year
