Earthquake motion indices play an important role in estimating damages due to ground shaking, and they are expected to be highly correlated with actual earthquake damages. However, there are some cases when building damages cannot be explained only by earthquake motion indices as in recent earthquakes. Therefore, this study evaluates the correlations between earthquake motion indices and building damage ratios performing seismic response analyses using numerical models of typical Japanese wooden houses.
