The appendix to “Terrorism in Dictatorships ” includes several robustness checks and additional results not included in the main manuscript. Specifically, we demonstrate that our key results do not change if we: • analyze simple cross-tabulations of the data, • focus exclusively on domestic terrorist attacks as coded by Enders, Sandler and Gaibulloev (2011), • exclude cases in which civil wars are ongoing from the analysis, • control for the level of observed repression using the Political Terror Scale (Gibney, Cornett and Wood, 2009), • account for the measure of press freedom developed by Freedom House, • account for a regime’s selection of its institutional setup.
