This study utilized numerical modeling to investigate the effect of a one in one hundred year storm surge on the salinization of freshwater aquifers of barrier islands on the southeastern coastline of the United States, and to assess the sensitivity of these modeling results to variations in geologic and hydrologic parameters. GIS data of two barrier islands and results from previous studies were used to create a generalized model of the salinization process using the SEAWAT component of the USGS MODFLOW modeling suite.
