ABSTRACT.- A checklist of polychaetous anneIids from the South China Sea is generated from available literature. On record are 661 species belonging to 54 families. Biodiversity distribution appears linked to collecting efforts rather than a reflection of the real situation. The potential for discovery of new species remains high
