Polycrystalline halite rocks (rocksalt) consist of grains of halite (NaCl), with a diameter between 0.01 mm and several dm, containing impurities in solid solution, secondary mineral phases and fluids trapped in inclusions, grain boundaries or in pores. Under deviatoric stress, halite rocks can deform by a range of processes. The deformation mechanisms known to operate at temperatures relevant for engi-neering and natural halokinetic conditions (20-20
