LATEX and Algebraic software for Honours in Applied Mathematics

LATEX [1] is the type setting system which is used to produce most of your class notes for this year (and in fact those of previous years). It is widely used for publications in Mathematics and Science. It is excellent for type setting mathematical expressions. An added bonus is that it is free. You need to learn LATEX in order to present your project in an acceptable form at the end of the year. The version that we use and is comonly accepted by most scientific publishing houses is LATEX2e. The following site carries a large collection of opensource software. The package to download for windows machines is called MiKTEXL̇inux normally comes with a TEXversion, or you can download TeTEX. You have also re-ceived some software on a CD. It includes a version of MikTEXand a word processor which specializes in TEX documents.
