Abstract—This paper gives an overview of the challenges we faced when integrating automotive software components on an embedded electronic control unit (ECU). The results include the design of a communication abstraction layer, management of scarce ECU resources and a demonstration of temporal isolation between components in an industrial case study. Index Terms—Automotive software; Virtualization; Real-time scheduling; Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE)
