Snow management on the prairies is an activity that receives only limited'and scattered attention from research, technical and educational units of the federal and provincial governments or from private individuals. The potential for utilizing the snow resource I has never been fully assessed. It is often said that l'manipulation of snow cover offers the greatest potential for increasing available water for dryland crops on Canadian prairiesu (Rennie 1979b).
