To accurately capture vortical flow structures on relatively coarse grids, vorticity con-finement might provide a cost-effective technique to counter the vorticity diffusing effect of numerical dissipation. Properties of the confinement term, added to the momentum equa-tion, are studied analytically and numerically. Two variants of vorticity confinement have been implemented in a finite-volume method for solving the Euler equations: one for uni-form structured grids and one for unstructured grids. The method is applied to the flow about a complex wing geometry which generates a compact tip vortex.
