A new adaptation algorithm to equalize the symbol error rates over all subchannels is proposed to overcome the slow time-varying noise environment existing in xDSL channels. The proposed algorithm combines the conventional bit swap algorithm with power gain adaptation. The overall trans-mission power before and after adjustment is kept the same. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has a faster convergence speed and a smaller dynamic range of the equalized noise variance than the bit swap algorithm [1]. 1
