Annular pancreas- A rare variation and its clinical significance

Pancreas is an exo-endocrine gland located in the ‘C ’ loop of duodenum at vertebral level L1, L2 and L3, consisting of head, neck, body and tail. Main pancreatic duct joins with common bile duct and opens into second part of duodenum. In this study a rare congenital anomaly, the annular pancreas encircling second part of duodenum completely has been discussed. The annular pancreas occurs due to mal-rotation and fusion of ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds which may be asymptomatic or associated with gastrointestinal obstruction due to narrowing of lumen of duodenum. Hence, appropriate knowledge of such case and its associated clinical features, complications and investigations may be important to gastroenterologists, surgeons and radiologists.
