Abstract — The aim of this paper is to present a level set method for optimal design of compliant mechanisms. It is based on the classical shape derivative and the level set representation of the shapes, that lead to very efficient nu-merical algorithms. The proposed method is demonstrated for single and multiple loads mechanisms, and illustrated with several two and three dimensional examples of synthe-sis of mechanisms of gripping and force inverters
