Abstract—This paper is focused on a detailed coverage and performance analysis of wireless metropolitan area networks based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, which is the basis of WiMAX technology. A coverage study and performance evaluation of a mobile WiMAX system in an urban and suburban environment based on a software simulation tool is presented herein. All the required parameters were taken into consideration while the software platform focused only on the appropriate propagation models. The total coverage of the area was 67%, from which 52 % is served with QAM modulation, offering higher data rates to the users.
