The eld of Aero Acoustics, which studies aerodynamically generated sound, has been around since the 1950's. In the beginning, the main focus was to make commercial airliners less noisy, but as the eld has matured, a wider range of applications has been studied. Consumer surveys on vehicles consistently rank wind noise as a top ten prob-lem, which has led the vehicle industry to invest time and money to decrease this problem. A deeper understanding of aero acoustics would not only be bene cial in problems like wind noise, but also for problems like climate system noise, exhaust system ows, and others.
