Production of ethanol from agricultural and forestry residues, municipal solid waste, energy crops, and other forms of lignocellulosic biomass could improve energy security, reduce trade deficits, decrease urban air pollu-tion, and contribute little, if any, net carbon dioxide accumulation to the atmosphere.
