The performance of a system, i.e., its quality-of-service properties with respect to timeliness and resource utilization, are considerably influenced by the workload the system is exposed to. Hence, a representative workload model—including the workload type (open/closed) and properties like arrival rates, think times, navigational patterns, etc.—is a prerequisite for accurate measurement-based and model-based performance evaluation.
