Abstract—In this paper, the performance of an uncoded multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) scheme combining single transmit antenna selection and receiver maximal-ratio combining (the TAS/MRC scheme) is investigated for independent flat Nakagami-m fading channels with arbitrary real-valued m. The outage probability is first derived. Then the error rate expressions are attained from two different approaches. First, based on the observation of the instantaneous channel gain, the binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) asymptotic bit error rate (BER) expression is derived, and the exact BER expression is obtained as an infinite series, which converges for reasonably large signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs).
