Particularly for business-critical enterprise applications (e.g., based on Java EE technology), performance is a major quality-of-service property. Performance problems manifest themselves, for instance, in increased response times or resource utilization, as well as decreased transaction rates. The goal of this seminar topic is to provide a survey of typical performance problems in enterprise applications, including a description of symptoms, root causes, and possible methods to detect them based on runtime monitoring.
