The November 1st 1755 Earthquake and Tsunami were responsible for the worst natural disaster known to have occurred in Portugal, causing a high number of casualties and severe damage. Tsunami numerical simulation results that include the detailed calculation of the inundation areas at Figueira da Foz produced a maximum water level of 8m, and a local amplification at the Figueira da Foz beach. On the other hand, the numerical simulation results show that a tsunami scenario similar to the 1755 event could inundate the area up to 10 km upstream the Mondego River.
