In this paper we propose two innovative detection schemes for IR-UWB communication systems based on the autocorrelation re-ceiver and differential detection. The proposed solutions overcome the implementation complexity required for a reliable detection of the transmitted data, by employing one or two limiters in the re-ceiver branches that avoid the need for an accurate analog mul-tiplier. Analytical models for the statistics of the decision vari-ables are presented, and the analytical and simulated BER exhibit an excellent agreement. We point out the dependence of the per-formance on some important system parameters, that shows the system design trade-off between receiver complexity and perfor-mance. 1
