In Mah2y2na Buddhism the bodhisattvas who forgo Nirv2ṇa and continue to do their work until no sentient beings remain in S28s2ra is called Mah2karuna-icchantika. The character of the Bodhisattva in the later period of Tantric Buddhism changed into different forms such as Vajrasattva, Vajradh2ra or Vidyadh2ra. But the concept of these Attained Ones is a little different from that of other Bodhisattvas because their stage of attainment is the the same as that of the Buddha but their role is that of a Bodhisattvas.
