Abstract: Tooling plays a relevant role in the introduction of Product Family Engineering (PFE): handling several products as if they were a single element (the core of the definition of PFE) implies additional sources of complexity. This complexity can be alleviated by the usage of focused tools. On the other hand, cost and effort is an entry barrier to the introduction of PFE. If the tools offered by the PFE community are cheap, easy to use and can be adapted withouth a huge effort to the current development activities, more companies will adopt the approach
